Gas infrastructure for transport

The administration has commissioned CNG facilities supported by the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund. The projects connect domestic gas resources to transport use through refuelling and conversion infrastructure, including facilities in Lagos, Abuja and Owerri.

At the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, the programme includes a campus transport component under the SPROUT initiative. The wider approach links infrastructure with vehicle conversion and financing arrangements intended to make adoption more accessible.

Making the network usable

A CNG vehicle requires access to suitable fuel, safe conversion where applicable and reliable maintenance. Refuelling stations and conversion centres therefore matter as a connected service network, rather than as isolated installations.

The commissioning of specific facilities is a delivery milestone. It does not establish universal access across Nigeria or identical savings for every driver. Fuel availability, vehicle use, conversion costs and finance terms affect the individual experience. This record recognises the completed facilities while separating their delivery from the continuing expansion of the national network.
