Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP)

CREDICORP is widening access to responsible consumer credit so working Nigerians can buy essential goods and pay over time.

operational

The Tinubu administration established the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) to build a modern consumer-credit system for Nigeria. Its mandate is to help working Nigerians access fair, transparent credit for essential purchases and to spread the cost over time.

CREDICORP combines credit-market development with catalytic support, working through participating financial institutions to make responsible lending more widely available.

Building access to formal credit

The corporation strengthens the infrastructure that consumer lending depends on. It provides catalytic capital and credit guarantees through participating lenders, reducing the barriers that have long kept eligible borrowers away from formal credit.

In February 2026, the administration inaugurated the CREDICORP board, giving the institution full governance to drive its mandate. The programme is already delivering credit to Nigerians, and it is working to extend that access across the country's working population.

Credit that builds dignity and opportunity

Consumer credit allows a qualifying Nigerian to buy an essential item today and pay for it over an agreed period. Families can acquire household goods and work tools without waiting years to save the full amount.

CREDICORP promotes responsible lending built on affordability and clear repayment terms. By bringing more citizens into the formal credit system, the programme supports household stability, stronger demand for locally made goods and a more inclusive economy. It reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to wider economic opportunity.
