Power and energy reform

Grid Asset Management Company (GAMCO)

The Tinubu administration approved GAMCO and inaugurated its committee in March 2026 to unlock stranded power and strengthen the grid.

announced

The Grid Asset Management Company initiative is the Tinubu administration's plan to tackle the constraints that stop available power from reaching Nigerians. The government has approved the company's establishment and set up the institutional work to deliver it.

The initiative focuses on the infrastructure linking generation with reliable supply to homes and businesses.

Addressing the gap between generation and supply

Nigeria generates more electricity than its grid can always deliver. GAMCO directly targets this gap. In March 2026, the administration inaugurated a committee following approval for the company's establishment.

The committee is reviewing the legal, regulatory, financial and institutional arrangements needed to make the company work. Its pilot will focus on assets connected to the Benin–Lagos transmission corridor, a vital route serving major industrial and commercial demand.

Putting grid assets to productive use

The committee is clarifying asset ownership, existing obligations and the responsibilities of electricity-sector institutions, laying the foundation for an effective operating company. This careful preparation ensures that GAMCO starts with a clear mandate and a workable structure.

The goal is simple: make better use of Nigeria's generation and transmission assets so that more electricity reaches consumers. Recovering stranded power means more reliable supply for factories, businesses and households.

GAMCO sits within the administration's broader power-sector reform, alongside the Electricity Act 2023 and the Presidential Metering Initiative. Together, these measures are rebuilding Nigeria's electricity system for growth.
