approved

The Ima Gas Project reached its final investment decision in September 2026, moving a long-standing Nigerian gas resource into development. The decision commits the project to proceed under defined commercial arrangements.

It turns resource potential into an investable development, a milestone the administration's gas investment reforms helped make possible.

A decades-old resource moves into development

The Ima gas resource had remained undeveloped for decades. With the final investment decision in September 2026, it is now proceeding to development under agreed financing and project arrangements.

AMNI International is developing the project with TotalEnergies. This places an indigenous Nigerian company in the leadership of a significant offshore gas investment, a strong statement of confidence in Nigerian capability and ownership in the energy sector.

Gas for industry and national growth

The project now moves through engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning towards production. Its gas will contribute to Nigeria's wider industrial and export economy, supporting power, manufacturing and foreign-exchange earnings.

The administration links the decision to its measures to make gas investment more competitive and predictable. Clearer policy and targeted incentives have encouraged investors to commit to Nigerian projects that had stalled for years.

For Nigerians, the Ima development means new investment, opportunities for local companies and workers, and greater use of the country's own gas. It shows the Tinubu administration's energy reforms turning dormant resources into productive assets and demonstrates what Nigerian-led partnerships can achieve.
