Major highways and roads are being constructed, reconstructed or rehabilitated across Nigeria.

The portfolio includes Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano and the East-West Road alongside the legacy corridors. Road and bridge access works support safer connections between cities, farms and markets.

The national road programme

The administration’s road portfolio includes new corridors, reconstruction of existing highways and repairs to bridges and access routes. Its anniversary account identifies the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano road, the East–West Road and the coastal and Sokoto–Badagry corridors among ongoing works. These projects serve different transport needs and have different completion schedules.

Specific delivery milestones

The May 2025 road commissioning programme included repairs to Eko Bridge in Lagos and the Jimeta Bridge in Yola, alongside highway and access-road works. The same programme also flagged off new works. A commissioning establishes a milestone for the named project; a flag-off establishes the start of a further delivery process.

Reading the national total

The stated national distance covers work under construction, reconstruction or rehabilitation. It is not a total of newly completed roads. Keeping those categories together with their reporting date makes the programme understandable without turning works in progress into finished assets.

Road investment is intended to support safer journeys, movement of goods and links between communities. The useful measure for each corridor is its own delivery record, followed by the condition, maintenance and accessibility of the finished route.
