Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway

The Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway is a federal road corridor intended to connect north-western Nigeria with the south-west. The administration has taken the long-standing proposal into active construction, with implementation divided into sections and phases.

Connecting production and markets

The corridor’s purpose is to improve movement between regions and expand access for communities along its route. It is particularly relevant to agricultural production, the movement of goods and connections between northern markets and the commercial centres of the south-west. Better connectivity is an intended outcome of completing usable sections and their links to the wider network.

Work recorded in Kebbi

A May 2026 inspection account from Kebbi described ongoing site clearance, filling, foundation work and concrete pavement construction. The Federal Ministry of Works identified separate construction phases within the state and reported that progress differed between them. The account also discussed the corridor’s expected value to farmers, traders and surrounding communities.

This provides evidence of implementation activity rather than completion of the entire Sokoto–Badagry route. Individual section updates should be read with their location and reporting date attached; a progress figure for one construction package cannot be applied to the whole highway.

Delivery stage

The project remains under construction in this record. Opening a particular stretch, finishing a pavement layer and commissioning an operational road are separate milestones. The Federal Ministry of Works remains the responsible institution for the highway works, while official project updates provide the route for following changes in delivery status.
