Teacher Professional Development

The Tinubu administration has placed teachers at the centre of its education agenda with a nationwide professional development programme launched in April 2025.

The programme strengthens the skills of teachers and education managers across the states and the Federal Capital Territory. It recognises a simple truth: the quality of a school depends on the quality of teaching inside it.

Investing in the people who teach

Teacher development is a core part of the school-improvement programme coordinated by the Universal Basic Education Commission and the Federal Ministry of Education. New buildings and learning materials achieve the most when teachers are equipped to use them well, so the administration is investing in classroom practice alongside infrastructure.

The programme sets out an ambitious national training reach, bringing professional learning to teachers across the federation rather than to a few selected centres. It gives education managers the tools to support their staff and lead better schools.
